The Health Department has informed us that the H1N1 Swine Flu shots will not be available to employees ages 24-64 unless they have a medical condition, such as heart or lung disease; diabetes; weakened immune system; blood disorders; or other illnesses.
Please contact the Holmes County Health Department for the most up-to-date H1N1 Swine Flu information.
Below are some tips and information for those who have school-aged children, work within schools, or frequent school locations:
DOH and County Health Departments (CHDs) communicate regularly with local education officials and give them the tools and information they need to keep children safe and address parents’ and school staff concerns during an outbreak.
We’ve learned a lot about the virus since the spring, and have determined dismissing individual schools, in most cases, is not the best option.
We are giving schools a set of strategies they can use to stay open. For example, extending the time sick people are away from school, allowing people at high risk for flu to stay home, and actively watching for signs of illness in students and staff.
Encourage ill students and staff to exclude themselves from school activities, like sporting events, choir, band, clubs, and other activities that involve close contact with other students and staff.
The H1N1 flu vaccine is voluntary. Initial vaccine shipments are anticipated this week, yet they will be small and availability will be limited. Larger, additional shipments of vaccine will begin arriving in Florida in the coming weeks.
The Florida Flu Information Line (1-877-352-3581) is an automated help line that can answer general questions about H1N1 and is available in English, Spanish and Creole. Callers also have the option to speak with an operator, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
Fighting H1N1 swine flu is a three-step approach: 1) get a vaccination when it becomes available, 2) practice everyday prevention (including frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes and staying home when sick), and 3) use antiviral drugs correctly if your health professional recommends them.
